Novedades de Octubre / October news

Green dendrobium

Summer was not a good period, few flowers only, many plants rested and now are starting to show new leaves and bulbs, for those, I changed pots to bigger ones when needed and also watered with phosphorus. Dosis must be small and disolved on water, never add dry granules directly as your plant might get burnt.

Shown a prosthechea cochleata, flowers are small, could be bigger if the plant is located in a warmer place.   This is an easy plant for beginners with  long lasting flowers.   Also you can see an epidendrum radicans, I got this plant during the Franz Mayer's orchids expo last May, flowers are beautiful, pay attention because flowers are small and you may not notice how beautifull they are.  Stems grow long so you may need to tight them.

This is a new one, still NOID,
my dearest aunt gave it to me last week,
today opened the first flower
Regalo de mi tia, todavia no identificada
o NOID, hoy abrió su primera flor.

La primavera llegó - Spring is here!

With spring, three of my outdoors orchids started to show their bottoms and the beautiful flower, then, they are allowed to be inside so we can see them all day long.

Prosthechea Cochleata
First one is a Prosthechea Cochleata, I usually call it  the spider, without knowing it, I found it in a book that describes it as a spider-shape, it is known as little octopus or "pulpitos" in Spanish. It has a colorful lip with a shell shape which must be sweet as ants are there since the bottom started to appear.   This plant has provided flowers every spring since 2006 when I started recording.  It has bulbs.

Up to now I have 2  flowered plants. Many flowers are available at each spike.

Laelia Speciosa
Second is a Laelia Speciosa . This beauty is intense pink, petals are 8-9 cm long. 1 bottom per spike.  I have seen upt to 3 spikes in the same Plant although always one spike per bulb.
Flowering is between April and June.  This morning bulbs were closed and completely open by night.

This is a Encyclia linkeana also found as encyclia luteorosea. Flowers have a diameter of 1.5 cm. P¨lant has many fragile flowers. It shows their beautiful tiny flowers every April, no miss. Nature knows!!!..
