Green dendrobium

El verano no fué una buena época, solo tuve algunas flores, muchas p´lantas descansaron y ahora están empezando a mostrar nuevas hojas, brotes y bulbos, en estos casos, cambié a macetas más grandes cuando la planta ya se encontraba apretada.  También hice riego con un poco de fósforo como fertilizante. Se debe agregar disuelto en agua y en pequeñas dósis, nunca directo.

Summer was not a good period, few flowers only, many plants rested and now are starting to show new leaves and bulbs, for those, I changed pots to bigger ones when needed and also watered with phosphorus. Dosis must be small and disolved on water, never add dry granules directly as your plant might get burnt.

Shown a prosthechea cochleata, flowers are small, could be bigger if the plant is located in a warmer place.   This is an easy plant for beginners with  long lasting flowers.   Also you can see an epidendrum radicans, I got this plant during the Franz Mayer's orchids expo last May, flowers are beautiful, pay attention because flowers are small and you may not notice how beautifull they are.  Stems grow long so you may need to tight them.  Se puede observar una prostechea cochleata, las flores pueden ser más grandes si la planta se expone a un ambiente más cálido.  El epidendrum radicans de la izquierda, lo adquirí durante la expo del museo Franz Mayer en la Cd. de México, sus flores son muy bonitas aunque pudieran ser insignificantes si no se pone atención a ellas por su tamaño. Los epidendrums son largos o "patones" .

Tengo 2 ejemplares de Prostechea Cochleata, una de ellas tuvo 5 varas florales, 10 flores todo el tiempo, siempre con botones nuevos por abrir. No falla/.

2011:
Spring is over in this part of the world (Mexico) and the gifts I got for the season were to enjoy the flowering of 12 different types for 12 weeks!!.  Terminó la primavera en esta parte del mundo (México) y los regalos de la temporada fueron disfrutar 12 diferentes tipos de inflorescencias durante 12 semanas.

Challenges were dry days above 32 C,  ants and suckers. I replaced barks and fertilized. Los retos fueron días muy secos con temperaturas superiores a los 32°C.

Also tried back bulbs in zip lock bags with peat moss, all are death =( . Los bulbos de rescate en bolsas zip lock no lo lograron, todos murieron.


1. Prostechea trulla. Delicate, bright petals.  Flowers last for several weeks. La Prosthechea trulla es delicada, de hojas brillantes, las flores duran por semanas.

3. Encyclia radiata perfumes my home beautifully during nights, flowers are strong and last long. Delicioso perfume nocturno, flores robustas y de larga duración

 4. Mitoniopsis require daily watering or flowers immediatly get weak.  Flowers last few days. De mucha agua, flores de corta duración.

5. Trichocentrum cebolleta. Countless number of flowers,  beautiful!!! Hermosa, muchísimas flores.

6. oncidium ornithorrhyncum. Small long lasting flowers that look like an insects. Pequeñas de larga duración,parecen bichos.

8. Prostechea cochleata. This is the national flower for Belize and is known as black orchid or little octopus. Flowers release a sweet nectar ants love!, Flor  nacionalde Belice, conocida como orquídea negra o pulpitos, las flores liberan un néctar dulce que le gusta a las hormigas.

9. Laelia speciosa looks fragile but is a strong big flower, last year gave 2 flowers, this year only one.Parece frágil pero la laelia specisa es una flor muy fuerte y grande, el año anterior dio dos flores, en este año solo una.

10. Paphiopedillum Wiertzianum.  Worth to wait!!!. Bottom required 2 months to open, when it did, this beauty and strange flower appeared.  Careful with over watering Vale la pena la espera, 2 meses para que el botón abriera, una flor extraña y hermosa.  Cuidad de sobre riego.

 

 

11. This encyclia linkeana might look insignificant.  Big mistake!!!, look in detail, each of the many flowers are very delicate and fragile. Combines, yellow, brown, white, black and green.

12. Finally, the phalaenosis which constantly gives flowers enjoyed us with white, yellow and pink flowers. 

Summer is here,  rain started intensivelly and very warm days are gone.  I might need to cover to protect from excesive rain. Drain works well.  I don't think I will have as many flower as in spring but I have already a promising plant that I will show later.

Ya es tradicional la exposición anual de Orquídeas en el Museo Franz Mayer organizada por la AMO. El lugar, un bello edificio del S XVI que luce todavía mejor con las hermosas flores en exposición y también venta directa de los productores.   En esta ocasión, la expo fue dedicada a la vainilla, la cual es una orquídea.

Franz Mayer Museum, a beautiful building from XVIII century is having the anual orchids expo from the Mexican Orchids Association (Asociación Mexicana de Orquideología AMO).

FM museum is located at Mexico City downtown and access is equivalent to 4 USD, museums in Mexico are really cheap compared to other Countries in the world, consider 2 USD per hour for parking lot fee and all you can spend in Plants as you will want to buy everything!!!!!!!!!!!!!! and remember, buying orchids and enjoying taking care of them is less expensive than paying for the shrink!!

Enjoy this beautiful building where you can find a mix of antique smell, people interested in orchids, the sound of birds and the smell of flowers.

Orchids expo is in the patio's 1st floor and orchids sales are at 2nd. floor. Find a mix of laelias, catleyas, epidendrums, trichocentrums, paphillodiums, dendrobiums phalaenopsis, maxillarias, vainilla,  and more.

Take a walk, then sit a the patio cafeteria for a cup of coffee, and keep walking!!  Although small, you will always find new things...
